A camping stove does a lot of jobs at camp. You can cook a proper hot meal on it, make coffee or tea, and before bed heat water for a hot water bottle so that you stay warmer in the tent at night. Ideally it should not weigh too much while doing all that. But in the shop, next to a burner that weighs as much as a few coins, there is a case with two burners, and next to that a twig stove that needs no gas at all.

I did the research so you don’t have to. I went through more than 120 listings on Amazon.pl, the Polish site of Amazon, one of the largest online shops in the world. I read 27 product pages closely, along with the manufacturers’ pages where they exist, and picked 16 stoves for this comparison. Two stoves sold only on Allegro joined them, which makes 18, from the smallest burner that screws onto a canister to a two-burner stove for car camping. You should find something that suits you among them. For each one I say how much it weighs and what that weight includes, what it runs on and what to watch out for. I have not tested the stoves myself, but I checked the data as carefully as I could, and where it comes from is explained further down, in the part about how I chose the stoves.

The stove is only half of it, though. The other half is fuel. The canister has to fit the burner, gas loses strength in frost, and the boil times on product listings were measured in conditions the listings often say nothing about. So before I get to the models, I explain how it all works and how to read the figures manufacturers give.

Which camping stove should you choose and what should you look for?

Start with where you will cook and for how many people. A mug of water on a summit, dinner for four next to the car and a few days in the woods far from a shop call for three different stoves. Then go through this list.

  • Fuel. Canister gas is simple to use, alcohol needs no canister, and wood you gather on the spot. More in the section on fuel.
  • A canister you can buy where you are going. A screw-on burner needs a threaded canister, and the Campingaz Bleuet needs the pierceable C206 cartridge. Before you buy a stove, check which one is easy to get where you are headed. Details in the section on canisters.
  • Temperature. Canister gas weakens in frost, and how much depends on the gas mixture. More in the section on gas in the cold.
  • Weight and what it includes. According to the product listings, the BRS-3000T weighs 25 g, but that is the bare burner, while the Optimus Crux Lite Solo weighs 272 g with its pot1. “Stove weight” means different things on different listings, as I explain in the section on weight.
  • Wind and stability. In wind a lot depends on the burner design, and a small canister will only take a small pot. More in the section on wind.
  • Ignition and flame control. A piezo igniter is handy, but carry a lighter anyway. If you cook more than water, check whether the flame turns down. More in the section on ignition.

What does a camping stove run on?

Most stoves in this comparison run on gas from a single-use canister. The canister holds liquefied gas under pressure. Primus, for example, fills its canisters with a mixture of propane, butane and isobutane2. Canisters differ in how they connect, though.

  • A threaded canister has a valve, so you screw the burner onto it and unscrew it after cooking, even if there is gas left. Jetboil tells you to disconnect the canister after every use3. The screw-on burners and the stove and pot sets in this comparison run on these canisters.
  • The Campingaz C206 pierceable cartridge has no valve. You put it in the stove, the casing and legs clip around it and a needle pierces it4. This is how the Bleuet works.
  • Cartridges and cylinders for two-burner stoves. According to its listing the Camping Cook CV runs on a gas cartridge1, and the Camping Kitchen 2 R on a Campingaz R907 or R904 cylinder with a regulator bought separately5. The IMEX case stove is sold with a stock of cartridges.

You can cook without gas too. The Esbit 985 is an alcohol burner. The manufacturer states that 70 ml of fuel burns in it for up to 30 minutes, and warns that filling denatured alcohol into a hot burner is life-threatening6. So before you refill, wait until the burner has cooled completely. In the Ohuhu, the WADEO and the StarBlue rocket stove you burn twigs, so you carry no fuel, but you have to find something dry to burn on the spot.

There are no multi-fuel stoves in this comparison. They run on several fuels, from gas to kerosene, and petrol works well in frost where canister gas performs poorly. Petrol, however, needs pumping and the burner needs pre-heating, and kerosene also clogs the burner with soot and smells bad7.

Does any canister fit any stove?

No, and it is an easy trap to fall into when buying. The EN 417 standard covers single-use metal cartridges for liquefied gas, with or without a valve, and one of its annexes covers threaded valve cartridges8. SOTO calls this valve a Lindal valve and says the canisters of all major gas brands have it and its burners fit it9. For the Odoland, the seller states a 7/16 (EN 417) thread outright1.

That a canister screws on does not mean the stove maker allows it. For the Flash, Jetboil requires a canister conforming to EN 417 or AS2278, intends the stove for its own Jetpower 100, 230 and 450 g canisters and warns that fitting other types may be hazardous3. The Bleuet listing on Amazon.pl says the products should be used only with Campingaz gas cartridges.

The SOTO WindMaster has one more limit. The manufacturer forbids connecting it to a 100% propane canister and calls that extremely dangerous, while it works with gas mixtures.

To check that a canister is not empty, shake it. If there is gas left, you will hear or feel the liquid inside.

You are not allowed to take gas cartridges on board an aircraft7. If you fly, check before you go which canisters you can buy at your destination, and choose the stove to match.

How does canister gas work in the cold?

Inside the canister the gas is a liquid under pressure. When the burner runs, the liquid evaporates and takes heat with it, so the canister cools down, sometimes until frost forms on it2.

Butane, isobutane and propane boil at different temperatures. At normal pressure butane boils at -0.5 °C, isobutane at -11.7 °C and propane at -42.1 °C10. The lower the boiling point, the higher the pressure in the canister and the stronger the flame. That is why propane copes best in the cold, isobutane next and butane worst.

When it gets cold, the pressure in the canister drops and the stove burns weaker or not at all, even though there is still gas in it. Primus states that its winter mixture of propane and isobutane works down to -22 °C, and for lower temperatures it recommends a multi-fuel stove. SOTO, for its part, states that thanks to its pressure regulator the WindMaster boils water in the same time over a wide range of temperatures9.

The stove has limits too. Jetboil gives -20 °C as the minimum use temperature for the Flash and warns that below freezing the O-rings may not seal fully, so gas may leak3.

Canister burner, stove and pot set or two-burner stove?

In the table the type of stove is shown in the “Type” column.

  • A screw-on burner is a bare burner with pot supports that you screw onto a canister. The BRS-3000T, MSR PocketRocket 2, SOTO WindMaster and Odoland belong here, including the lightest stove in the comparison.
  • A pierceable cartridge stove holds the C206 cartridge in its base, with the burner on top. This is the Bleuet4.
  • A stove and pot set is a burner and a pot made for each other. On the Jetboil Flash the pot locks onto the burner, and for any other cookware the manufacturer requires the separate Jetboil Pot Support, otherwise there is a risk of fire3. The MiniMo listing on Amazon.pl says that thanks to FluxRing technology the set boils in a little over two minutes using half the fuel of traditional systems, but gives no amount of water and no conditions1. The Jetboil Stash and the Optimus Crux Lite Solo are in this group too.
  • Two-burner and case stoves are for car camping. According to its listing the Camping Kitchen 2 R weighs 3.5 kg5, and the Camping Cook CV 1.9 kg.
  • Wood stoves are the Ohuhu, the folding WADEO and the heavy StarBlue rocket stove. If you want to know how a rocket stove works inside, I describe it in a separate post on rocket stove construction.

There are no remote canister stoves, connected to the canister by a hose, in this comparison.

How should you read power and boil time?

Manufacturers give stove power in watts or kilowatts, less often in kilocalories per hour or in BTU. It is the same quantity in different units. SOTO, for example, gives 3260 W for the WindMaster, that is 2800 kcal/h and 11,000 BTU9.

Power tells you how much gas the burner burns per hour, not how much heat reaches the pot. For the Flash, Jetboil gives 2 kW next to a consumption of 139 g of gas per hour3. Two Campingaz stoves show that power alone does not tell the whole story: the Bleuet from this comparison and the Camping 206 S, which Amazon.pl does not have in stock. Both have 1250 W and burn 90 g of gas per hour, yet according to the manufacturer they boil a litre of water in 5 min 20 s and in 7 min4, 11. Same power, different time.

Boil times are given under different conditions. MSR gives a litre in 3.5 minutes for the PocketRocket 2 on its own MSR IsoPro gas12, and SOTO two cups of water in under 2.5 minutes in strong wind. The Jetboil Stash and Flash listings on Amazon.pl give 2.5 minutes and 120 seconds with no amount of water. According to its listing, the Optimus Crux Lite Solo boils a litre of water in about 3 minutes, although its pot holds 0.6 l. The Odoland listing gives 6800 W and a litre in 2 minutes, adding that the time may vary1. Jetboil adds that in cold, heat, wind and at altitude a stove may perform worse.

That is why power and boil time are not in the table. You will find them in each stove’s description, together with who stated them.

How do you cook in wind and what pot can go on the stove?

Some stoves have wind protection built into their design. SOTO says the concave head of the WindMaster, together with a pot placed close to the flame, works like a built-in windscreen9. The seller also calls the Odoland windproof1.

Be careful with a separate windscreen. Jetboil forbids one with the Flash because it can overheat the canister and cause an explosion, and it equally forbids warming the canister with the stove3. Before you put a windscreen around your own stove, check in the manual whether the manufacturer allows it.

Pot size also affects stability. SOTO allows a pot of up to 2 l on the WindMaster, but on a small 110 g canister it advises reducing it to about 1 l, because a small canister may not support a large pot. With the Pot Support, Jetboil allows cookware of up to 2 l and 23 cm in diameter. For a big pot for several people, in my opinion a two-burner stove or the StarBlue stove with its wide grate is a better fit.

Do you need flame control and a piezo igniter?

If you only boil water, a full flame is enough. For cooking food you want a flame that turns down. Campingaz says the Bleuet’s flame adjusts precisely, from a simmer to a full boil4.

A piezo igniter is a button that makes a spark and lights the gas3. In this comparison the Odoland, the SOTO WindMaster, the Jetboil Flash, the Kovar K-202 and the MaxiCamp have one, and the “Piezo ignition” column in the table shows it. Always carry a lighter or matches anyway, because Jetboil warns that a wet igniter may fail to spark and tells you to use matches then.

What does stove weight include?

The word “weight” on a listing can mean the bare burner, the burner with a pot support, the burner with a pot or the whole stove. SOTO gives 60 g for the WindMaster without a pot support, 67 g with the TriFlex support and 87 g with the 4Flex support9. MSR gives a minimum weight of 73 g and a packaged weight of 105 g for the PocketRocket 212.

That is why the table has a “Weight includes” column that says what the given weight covers. Add the gas to the stove’s weight. Jetboil intends the Flash for 100, 230 and 450 g canisters3, and SOTO states that a 250 g canister lasts the WindMaster about 1.5 hours of burning.

How did I choose the stoves?

I looked at models that are popular with Amazon.pl customers, with high ratings and plenty of them, so that the list covers the whole price range. Most have several hundred or several thousand ratings. The fewest ratings belong to the Esbit 985, the Optimus Crux Lite Solo and the Jetboil Stash, which I kept for one specific feature each. The first is an alcohol stove set, and the other two are light sets with a pot. The Kovar K-202 and the MaxiCamp were added on 20.10.2026 from Allegro, where they have 3910 and 1209 ratings.

Technical data come from manufacturers’ pages where the manufacturer gives them (Campingaz, MSR, Esbit, SOTO)4, 11, 12, 6, 9. Otherwise the figures are sellers’ declarations from product listings, and I mark them as such. Where nobody states a figure, the table says “no data” instead of a guess. Ratings are Amazon.pl customers’ ratings, and for the Kovar K-202 and the MaxiCamp Allegro buyers’ ratings, not mine, as of 16.10.2026 (Allegro 20.10.2026). Three models share the top Amazon.pl rating of 4.8: the MSR PocketRocket 2, the SOTO WindMaster and the Jetboil Flash. In the “highest rated” quick pick I put the MSR, because it has the most ratings of the three.

There are no multi-fuel stoves for petrol and kerosene here, because they are a separate category of gear. How they differ is covered above, in the section on fuel.

Stoves under 100 zł

Six models sit in this band. The lightest is the BRS-3000T, a bare burner that screws onto a canister and, according to the seller, weighs 25 g. Next to it is a Campingaz classic for the C206 pierceable cartridge, the Bleuet, and for those who would rather not carry gas, two wood stoves, the Ohuhu and the WADEO. Two gas stoves sold only on Allegro join them, the small Kovar K-202 and the MaxiCamp case stove, sold with four cartridges.

With the Bleuet, remember that it works only with the brand’s C206 cartridges.

Stoves 100-300 zł

This is the biggest band, with seven models. For a backpack there is the MSR PocketRocket 2, and for windy weather the Odoland with a wide burner and piezo ignition. The Optimus Crux Lite Solo is a burner with a pot that holds everything, including a small canister.

Without gas you cook on the Esbit 985 alcohol stove. For car camping and several people there are two Campingaz two-burner stoves, the Camping Kitchen 2 R for a cylinder and the Camping Cook CV for a cartridge, plus the IMEX case stove sold with a stock of cartridges.

Stoves over 300 zł

Five models. The SOTO WindMaster is a burner with a wind-sheltered head and piezo ignition. Three Jetboil sets combine a burner with a pot. The Stash weighs 201.3 g according to the listing, while the MiniMo and Flash sellers give no weight. The fifth is the StarBlue rocket stove for twigs, heavy and non-folding, but with a wide grate for a big pot.

Can you cook inside a tent?

No. A stove that burns fuel can cause carbon monoxide poisoning inside a tent13. Carbon monoxide has no smell, and in an enclosed space it can kill. Jetboil lists a tent alongside a car, caravan, boat and home among the places where the stove must never be used3. The Camping Kitchen 2 R listing on Amazon.pl, for its part, says gas stoves are not suitable for indoor use5.

Opening the door will not help. According to Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, opening tent flaps, doors or windows is not enough to stop carbon monoxide building up. So cook outside and away from the tent, and before you light a new stove, read your model’s manual.

How should you store gas canisters?

The pressure in a canister rises with temperature, and the EN 417 standard covers cartridges in which it does not exceed 13.2 bar at 50 °C8. Keep canisters outside the tent, away from direct sun and frost, and change them outdoors13. Jetboil advises changing a canister in a well-ventilated place, away from flames and other people, disconnecting the canister before storing the stove, and keeping the stove in a cool, dry place indoors3.

Frequently asked questions

Which camping stove is the lightest?

The BRS-3000T, 25 g according to the seller, but that is a bare burner. Among gas sets with a pot and a known weight, the lightest is the Jetboil Stash, 201.3 g according to the listing. The MiniMo and Flash sellers give no weight.

Can I cook inside a tent?

No. A stove that burns fuel can produce carbon monoxide, and opening the tent door is not enough to stop it building up. Cook outside.

Gas, wood or alcohol?

Gas is simple to use and burns without soot or smell, but you have to carry the canister, it has to fit the stove, and in hard frost gas performs poorly. Wood is gathered on site, but you need to find dry wood. An alcohol burner is simple, but you never refill a hot burner.

Where do the ratings come from?

From Amazon.pl, and for the two stoves sold only on Allegro from Allegro. They are buyers’ ratings, read on 15.10.2026 (Allegro on 20.10.2026), not mine.

And what do you cook on when you camp? If you have one of these stoves, let me know in the comments how it works for you.

A burner with a concave head, which the manufacturer describes as a built-in windscreen, plus a pressure regulator and piezo ignition. With the 4Flex support it weighs 87 g according to the manufacturer, and 67 g with the TriFlex sold separately.

The manufacturer states 3260 W and about 1.5 h of burning on a 250 g canister. The largest pot is 2 l, but on a small 110 g canister the manufacturer suggests about 1 l at most, otherwise the set stands unsteadily.

The manufacturer explicitly forbids using it with 100% propane and calls that extremely dangerous. Buy canisters with a butane, isobutane and propane mix.

Pros

  • Wind-sheltered head
  • Piezo ignition and pressure regulator

The MaxiCamp is a case stove with one 8 cm burner that runs on long butane cartridges. The default offer includes the stove, four cartridges and the case. The seller gives an output of 2100 W, gas use of 150 g an hour and a weight of 1.4 kg (1.65 kg with the packaging) at 8 x 34 x 28 cm.

It has piezo ignition, flame control, a windshield and non-slip feet. The stove carries the marking CE 2575-24, and the seller names an Intertek certificate. The offer gives two different boil times for 1 l of water: about 3 minutes in the description and 5 minutes in the specifications.

The offer name says stainless steel and the stove is marked INOX, but the technical data of the same offer give powder-coated steel and an enamelled grate. The product card also mentions a grill plate, which is not in the default offer and does not appear in any photo. It is a stove for the car or the allotment, not for a backpack.

Pros

  • Four cartridges included
  • Piezo ignition and a windshield
  • Carrying case
  • CE marking on the stove

Cons

  • 1.4 kg, not for a backpack

The K-202 is a small folding stove with one burner, four fold-out metal pot supports and folding legs. It has piezo ignition and flame control. Folded, it fits in a 9 x 9 x 9 cm cube, unfolded it measures 18 x 18 x 9 cm, and it comes with a pouch. The seller gives no weight.

The seller claims an output of 2800 W and 1 l of water boiled in 5 minutes. Both figures come from the seller only.

The offer’s specifications call it “screw-on”, but the photos show something else: a long butane canister that clips in at the side and is turned to lock. The description (“hold it on, turn it”) matches the photos. No canister is included and the offer does not name the type, so check which gas fits before you buy.

Pros

  • Piezo ignition and flame control
  • Folds to 9 x 9 x 9 cm
  • Pouch included

Cons

  • Conflicting canister information: "screw-on" in the specifications, a side canister in the photos
  • The seller gives no weight

A titanium burner and a 0.8 l pot that holds the burner and a canister stabiliser. According to the listing the whole set weighs 201.3 g and measures 130 x 112 mm.

It is the lightest gas set with a pot among those with a known weight, because the sellers of the MiniMo and Flash do not give one. The Jetpower canister and a lighter are not included, and there is no piezo, so a lighter is a must. The 3000 W output is the seller’s claim.

Pros

  • 201.3 g, the lightest pot set with a known weight

  • Canister stabiliser included

Cons

A burner with folding arms and a 0.6 l pot with a lid that doubles as a pan. Everything packs inside the pot together with a 100 g canister, and the whole set is 13.6 cm tall and 10.7 cm across.

According to the listing description the whole set weighs 272 g, of which the burner is 72 g. A few lines further down the same seller gives 249 g, so one of these numbers is wrong. The 3000 W output is the seller’s claim.

The seller says a litre of water boils in about 3 minutes, but the pot holds 0.6 l, so that figure refers to a different pot. The seller does not mention piezo ignition.

Pros

  • Everything packs in the pot, with a 100 g canister

Which one to choose

If you do not have time to read every description, here is a short cheat sheet: what you need, what to pick and what to watch out for.

  • If every gram counts and you carry a threaded canister, go for the BRS-3000T

Watch out: it is a bare burner on short legs, a wide pot sits on it less securely, and you need your own matches or lighter.

  • If you often cook in windy weather, go for the SOTO WindMaster

Watch out: never connect it to a 100% propane canister, and on a small canister keep the pot to about 1 l.

  • If you want a light burner and pot in one, go for the Jetboil Stash

Watch out: there is no piezo ignition, and the canister and lighter are sold separately.

  • If you cook for several people at a car campsite, go for the Campingaz Camping Kitchen 2 R

Watch out: it weighs 3.5 kg, runs on a Campingaz cylinder, and the regulator is sold separately.

  • If you do not want to carry gas, go for the WADEO

Watch out: the stated weight of about 1 kg includes accessories, and wet wood burns poorly.
